Yurie’s career in law began when she started to use her multilingual abilities and intellect to safeguard Patent and Trademark rights as a Paralegal for the Plus IP Firm.
Yurie came to the United States at a young age from Japan. Having studied Spanish at home in Japan, she came to know three languages as she continued her studies in the United States. Her academic achievement reflects the “American Dream” her parents set out to achieve. She is a recipient of a Posse Scholarship, 1 of 40 students selected out of 1,000 applicants citywide to participate in an intensive leadership training program that focused on developing young leaders to take on leadership positions in the workforce. As a Posse Scholar, she was able to attend Mount Holyoke College on a full tuition scholarship and earned a Bachelors Degree in Latin American Studies with a minor in Japanese. Yurie has been a permanent part of the firm’s team since her initial summer internship, and now works as a Paralegal for the firm. With her multilingual abilities, she has been able to communicate with our diverse group of clients.
Yurie completed her Paralegal Studies program and is in the process of becoming a NALA Certified Paralegal. Yurie is also continuing her legal studies and plans to attend law school soon, with the full support of the firm.
“I will eternally be grateful to the firm for mentoring me. I consider myself lucky as I know that I work for a firm that truly cares for its people and has supported my goals. As a young professional, I aspire to employ the traits of kindness, empathy, and leadership that I learned from working here.” – Yurie Shimabukuro
